Swedish Melodic Death Metal in 1995 was the place to be and At The Gates found themselves right dead center with Slaughter of the Soul.
“22 years of pain. And I can feel it closing in. The will to rise above, tearing my insides out”
This melodically shreds my soul as each song flows into the next. The album clocks in a little over 34 minutes so you’ll want to play it a few times.
This album is their peak as the called it quits less than a year after this release. There was a brief reunion in 2007 and eventually got back together in 2014. They are still active today.
This album was nominated for a Swedish Grammy, but they fell short and didn’t win.
They won in my book.
